I prefer used steel , it has had a life, has been twisted and torn by it.
I seldom have an initial plan for the steel, I will drag and place it around the yard, essentially drawing with it, perhaps more precisely letting the steel draw itself using me. I once heard a good quote from a golfer "You gotta keep the head out of the way", a thought that can be transposed into the studio. The ego can be a tedious conventional boring taskmaster, letting it mediate the mark making process is tantamount to throwing the hens to the wolves.

So anyways, I am aware that the steel is drawing itself into shapes that exploit its history and my present, my history and its present.

It is a thrilling process.
